Why Have All Vijay Hazare Trophy Matches in Bengaluru Been Relocated?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Dec 23 (NationPress) All Vijay Hazare Trophy matches originally scheduled to occur at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium have been moved to the BCCI Centre of Excellence. This shift is due to an order from the Karnataka government that cites security concerns.
"All matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy that were planned at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium will now take place at the BCCI CoE. This decision was made earlier today due to security reasons, as stated by the state government," a DDCA official informed IANS on Tuesday.
The official added that both teams participating in the opening match have been informed, and their pre-match training session will now occur at the BCCI CoE. "The Delhi team has been notified, and their pre-match practice against Andhra will now take place at the CoE," the official remarked.
Meanwhile, all Vijay Hazare matches in Bengaluru will occur without any spectators. The police in Bengaluru have assured a robust security presence around the Aerospace Park, where the CoE is located.
The Karnataka Police denied permission for the Vijay Hazare Trophy match between Delhi and Andhra Pradesh at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, citing significant safety and crowd control issues.
This decision followed a thorough inspection by Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar, along with officials from the Greater Bengaluru Authority and the Fire Department, who uncovered critical deficiencies in the infrastructure and emergency preparedness of the venue.
On Monday, a committee appointed by the Karnataka government, which included officials from police, public works, and fire safety departments, examined the Chinnaswamy Stadium and submitted their findings.
The Bengaluru City Police Commissioner had already issued a 17-point advisory stipulating essential safety measures. The committee verified whether these measures had been implemented and delivered a report to the government.
"The committee had visited the stadium on Monday under the directives of the Home Department. Officers from various departments, including fire, Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company (Bescom), Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), and police, inspected the stadium. According to the report from the officers, permission has not been granted for the match on Wednesday at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. The committee has also provided a detailed report," Commissioner Singh stated.
The KSCA had previously expressed confidence in organizing matches featuring Kohli and Pant at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
