New Delhi, June 24 (NationPress) After an impressive performance at the Paris Diamond League, Neeraj Chopra, a two-time Olympic medallist, is gearing up to showcase his skills at the Ostrava Golden Spike, part of the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold series, on Tuesday.
Having missed the last two editions due to injuries, Chopra is eager to compete in Ostrava for the first time. The Tokyo Olympic champion and Paris Olympic silver medallist has surpassed the 90m mark for the first time this season, aiming to build on his recent victory at the Paris Diamond League.
He will face tough competition from Thomas Rohler, the 2016 Olympic champion from Germany, and Grenada's Anderson Peters, a two-time World Champion and Olympic bronze medallist, in a nine-man lineup.
The event will take place on the home turf of his new coach, Jan Zelezny, a legendary Czech javelin thrower and world record holder who is also key in organizing the Golden Spike. Interestingly, the meeting record is held by Zelezny himself, at 94.64m.
Established in 1961, the Golden Spike is the premier athletic event on Czech soil and ranks among the oldest competitions in Europe. Since 2019, it has been included in the elite World Athletics Continental Tour – Gold series.
As the second-highest level of world competition, it follows only the Diamond League, with only ten cities globally participating in this prestigious series.
