New Delhi, July 16 (NationPress) Indian cricket captain Shubman Gill shared his thoughts on the unexpected encounter with King Charles III, expressing gratitude for the opportunity. Gill remarked that the team didn't foresee the King watching the Lord's Test.
The Indian cricket teams, both men's and women's, were welcomed by King Charles III at Clarence House in London on Tuesday. The King engaged with players such as Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, and Gill.
This reception at Clarence House was a diplomatic gesture, aligning with the tradition of welcoming Commonwealth cricket teams visiting England.
As the Head of the Commonwealth, King Charles noted that he had seen highlights from the third India vs England Test at Lord's, where Gill's team narrowly lost by just 22 runs despite being eight wickets down early on Day 5.
“He was incredibly kind and generous, engaging us in lovely conversations. We were surprised to learn that he had watched parts of our last session,” Gill stated in a video posted by BCCI on X. “It was an unforgettable experience, and we are very thankful.”
During the meeting, English actor and musician Idris Elba also visited to greet both teams. Elba, who was in London for the Youth Opportunities Summit at St James’ Palace, expressed his excitement upon seeing them.
BCCI vice president Rajiv Shukla and India's High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswami, were also present during this memorable event. Shukla presented his book, 'Scars of 1947', to King Charles, who showed considerable interest in its content.
Shukla commented, “King Charles appeared to be a warm and cheerful individual during our meeting. He had gathered quite a bit of information about each of us prior to our encounter,” as he shared on X.
