Wolverhampton, Aug 19 (NationPress) — Wolverhampton Wanderers have enhanced their defensive lineup by acquiring Jackson Tchatchoua from Serie A club Hellas Verona on a five-year contract.
The right-wing-back, born in Belgium and holding Cameroon international status, has a deal that includes an option for an additional year. He arrives after two successful years in Italy's top division, where he was celebrated as the fastest player in Serie A last season.
“I feel great. I’m really pleased to be here and look forward to what lies ahead. I had a brief conversation with the coach, but I plan to discuss more in depth soon. The Premier League has always been a dream for me, and the rich history of this club, its stadium, and the passionate fans played a significant role in my decision,” stated Tchatchoua.
The 23-year-old launched his professional career with Charleroi in Belgium, making his debut four years ago. Even as a teenager, he showcased his capabilities as a wing-back, contributing assists.
His first senior goal came against Genk from the right flank, while his second was scored from the left against RFC Seraing, highlighting both his remarkable pace and adaptability.
In his second season with Charleroi, Tchatchoua made himself available for the Cameroon national team. After being called up to the under-23 squad, he made his senior debut in a World Cup qualifier against Cape Verde in June 2024.
This debut took place while he was with Hellas Verona, where he had initially joined on loan. Tchatchoua made an immediate impact, providing an assist in his debut against Frosinone and impressing enough to secure a permanent transfer.
Last season saw the young talent play a pivotal role for both club and country, participating in 43 matches as Verona maintained their Serie A status and Cameroon qualified for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in December.
During his time with Verona, Tchatchoua was honored with the inaugural Frecciarossa Speed Award, named after a high-speed Italian train, after reaching a staggering speed of 36.3km/h.
