New Delhi, Sep 23 (NationPress) As the countdown to the inaugural World Para-Athletics Championships 2025 in the capital ticks down to just two days, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya conducted a visit to the JLN Stadium on Tuesday to assess the final arrangements for this landmark event. This championship represents a significant milestone in India’s journey to host global sporting events, further solidifying the nation’s reputation as a premier destination for international sports.
Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs, Smt. Raksha Khadse, accompanied Dr. Mandaviya, engaging with athletes and the organizing teams. The inspection was attended by senior officials from the Local Organising Committee, Paralympic Committee of India (PCI), and the Sports Ministry.
Dr. Mandaviya thoroughly inspected the stadium facilities, including the Accreditation Centre, Medical Centre, and the state-of-the-art MONDO track—recently inaugurated on August 29, 2025. This track is set to welcome elite para-athletes from over 100 countries, with 73 athletes representing the host nation in fierce competition.
“Thanks to the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, India has become a trusted venue for major international sporting events. His belief that the world is one family—‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’—inspires us to unite athletes from all corners of the globe on Indian soil,” Dr. Mandaviya remarked during the visit.
“With participation from more than 100 nations, this is not only India’s largest para-athletics event but also a testament to our capabilities, rich culture, and commitment to sports as a unifying force. We aim to provide every para-athlete with world-class infrastructure and unwavering support throughout the World Para Athletics Championships,” he stated, as quoted by SAI Media.
Prominent para-athletes such as Sharad Kumar, a medallist from the Paris Paralympics, along with Simran Sharma and Preeti Pal, were present and actively training on the MONDO track.
Officials from the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI), including PCI President Devender Jhajharia, updated the Minister on the preparedness of the Indian team. The Ministers also reviewed various essential facilities such as the accreditation centre, warm-up track, gym, medical centre, classification area, and lounges, emphasizing the need for seamless arrangements for all participants and officials.
Set to commence with an opening ceremony on September 25, this tournament marks the first occasion India is hosting this prestigious event.
