WPL 2025 Auction Scheduled for December 15 in Bengaluru, Tournament Expected to Begin in Early February

New Delhi, Nov 28 (NationPress) The 2025 Women’s Premier League (WPL) player auction is confirmed to take place in Bengaluru on December 15, with the third installment of the five-team tournament likely commencing in the initial week of February 2025.
Sources inform that while Bengaluru and Goa were previously considered as potential locations for hosting the WPL 2025 auction, it has now been officially decided that the auction will be in Bengaluru, the home of the reigning champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), led by Smriti Mandhana.
As per the tournament regulations, the deadline for Indian player auction registration is set for December 4 at 5 pm IST. Each of the five franchises has a budget of INR 15 crore to assemble their squads for the 2025 season, a rise from the previous INR 13.5 crore.
A total of 19 slots will be filled during the auction, including five designated for acquiring overseas players. The base prices for capped players entering the auction are INR 30 lakh, INR 40 lakh, and INR 50 lakh, respectively. For uncapped players, the base prices are INR 10 lakh and INR 20 lakh.
The Gujarat Giants, who finished last in the points table during the first two seasons, possess the largest auction budget at INR 4.4 crore. RCB will enter the auction with INR 3.25 crore, while UP Warriorz will have INR 3.9 crore. The two-time runner-up Delhi Capitals will have INR 2.5 crore, and the Mumbai Indians, winners in 2023, will go in with INR 2.65 crore.
Regarding the schedule for the 2025 tournament, it is anticipated that the season will begin in the first week of February and conclude by March, although there is currently no information on whether the caravan model for venues will be maintained for the third season.
The inaugural season of the WPL took place in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, while the second season was hosted in Bengaluru and New Delhi. Following the 2025 season, the WPL is set to transition to a January-February slot in 2026, as outlined in the new ICC Women’s Future Tours Programme 2025-29.
