WPL 2025 Player Auction: Delhi Capitals Aim to Refine Squad Ahead of Competition

Bengaluru, Dec 14 (NationPress) The Delhi Capitals, a team that has finished as runners-up in both editions of the Women’s Premier League, are preparing for the WPL 2025 Player Auction scheduled for Sunday. They aim to sharpen their existing squad and enter the auction with the team that has the smallest budget to spend.

“I’m not overly concerned about having the smallest budget in the room, as we have a relatively limited amount of shopping to do. We’ve conducted our discussions leading up to the auction, and our scouting team has extensively evaluated local talent during the off-season. We are confident in addressing the minor gaps and optimizing our squad,” stated head coach Jonathan Batty.

Prior to the auction, the Delhi Capitals released players including Poonam Yadav, Laura Harris, Aparna Mondal, and Ashwani Kumari.

“We analyze statistics, a wide array of data, and also combine it with the valuable experience already present. Sourav Ganguly’s insights are unparalleled in the realm of world cricket. We consult with him regarding potential improvements and strategies for the auction,” he added.

The WPL 2025 Auction is set to take place on Sunday in Bengaluru, with 120 players slated to be auctioned for selection by the five franchises.

The auction pool consists of 91 Indian players and 29 international stars, including three emerging talents from Associate Nations. Among these, 30 players are capped (9 Indian, 21 overseas), while 90 are uncapped (82 Indian, 8 overseas). With most franchises retaining their core squads, only 19 slots remain open, inclusive of 5 for overseas players.

Marquee players in this year’s auction include Tejal Hasabnis, Sneh Rana, Deandra Dottin (West Indies), Heather Knight (England), Orla Prendergast (Ireland), Lauren Bell (England), Kim Garth (Australia), and Danielle Gibson (England), along with several other notable names.
