RCB's Williams: WPL 2025 Auction Is a Prime Opportunity to Enhance the Team

New Delhi, Dec 14 (NationPress) With the 2025 WPL auction set to take place this Sunday, the head coach of the defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Luke Williams, stated that the mini auction offers a remarkable opportunity for them to recruit players who can truly influence the tournament.
RCB has successfully retained key players including captain Smriti Mandhana, Ellyse Perry, Richa Ghosh, Sabbineni Meghana, Shreyanka Patil, Georgia Wareham, Asha Sobhana, Renuka Singh, Sophie Devine, Sophie Molineux, Ekta Bisht, Kanika Ahuja, and Kate Cross ahead of the auction.
They have acquired England opener Danni Wyatt-Hodge through a trade with UP Warriorz for her current fee of INR 30 lakh. RCB has also released several players including England captain Heather Knight, South African all-rounder Nadine de Klerk, and Indian all-rounders Shubha Satheesh and Simran Bahadur, along with uncapped players Disha Kasat, Indrani Roy, and Shraddha Pokharkar.
“We aimed to retain a strong core from last year’s successful squad to ensure consistency both on and off the field. Nonetheless, the mini-auction allows us to continue evolving and to add players who can enhance our impact in the WPL and strengthen our team,” Williams expressed in a statement from the franchise on Saturday.
RCB now possesses a budget of INR 3.25 crore as they head into the WPL auction at ITC Gardenia in Bengaluru on Sunday. They have four slots available to complete their squad of 18 players. The auction will feature 120 players, including 91 Indian players, of which nine are capped.
Additionally, there are 29 overseas players, including three cricketers from Associate nations, competing for a maximum of five slots out of the 19 available. Each of the five franchises has a budget of INR 15 crore for assembling their squads for the 2025 season, an increase from INR 13.5 crore in the last auction.
