Vadodara, February 15 (NationPress) The two-time finalists Delhi Capitals won the toss and chose to bowl first against the former champions Mumbai Indians in the second match of the Women's Premier League (WPL) Season 3 at Kotambi Stadium on Saturday. Sarah Bryce and Niki Prasad are set to make their debuts for Delhi Capitals, while Sanskriti Gupta will have her inaugural match for Mumbai Indians.
This matchup is not only a rematch of the 2023 WPL final but also a repeat of last season's opening game, which concluded with a thrilling last-ball finish. Although MI triumphed on both occasions, DC has proven to be a formidable contender, finishing as runners-up twice and leading the table in both seasons.
Delhi Capitals captain Meg Lanning stated, "We are going to bowl. As seen last night, it’s a pretty good wicket and gives us the opportunity to come together as a team. We have the core of a really strong team, and it’s crucial to execute as a unit. We need to focus on taking wickets. We’ve had some illness going around, so that eases things for us. Sarah Bryce and Niki Prasad are debuting for us."
Mumbai Indians captain Harmanpreet Kaur remarked, "We are definitely going to bowl, but we saw last night that the ball was coming onto the bat well, and we hope to bat effectively. Last season, we aimed to play fearless cricket, and we intend to do the same this season.
"We want to stick to the basics. We don’t plan to try anything new. Last season was successful, and in the first season, we did everything right. Even with a debutant tonight, she adds significant balance to the team," said the Mumbai Indians skipper.
