Sourav Ganguly Claims Delhi Capitals Boast a More Robust Team Following WPL Auction

Bengaluru, Dec 15 (NationPress) The Delhi Capitals entered the WPL 2025 Auction with a budget of Rs 2.5 crore, looking to fill four key positions. They successfully obtained wicketkeepers Nandini Kashyap and Sarah Bryce, all-rounder N Charani, and emerging talent Niki Prasad.
"This has been a very successful auction for us. Having been associated with this WPL team for two seasons, I’ve witnessed their progress closely, participated in the auction, and I can confidently say that we now have a much stronger squad than last year. With Nandini and Sarah on board, we are in a great position," reflected Sourav Ganguly, Director of Cricket for the Delhi Capitals, after the auction concluded.
Initially, Delhi Capitals sought a backup wicketkeeper, and their first acquisition was Nandini Kashyap for Rs 10 lakh. The 21-year-old wicketkeeper recently scored 247 runs at an impressive strike rate of 125.40 during the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy for Uttarakhand.
"I was astonished to get her at such a low price. We aimed to secure one among Nandini, Simran, or Kamalini, but we didn’t foresee Nandini being available for just 10 lakhs. Acquiring Nandini and Sarah Bryce at this price is remarkable," Ganguly disclosed.
Following this, in a competitive bid against Mumbai Indians, the Delhi Capitals secured 20-year-old all-rounder N Charani for Rs 55 lakh. She played nine matches for the Gujarat Giants last season. To further enhance their squad, the Delhi Capitals also signed Sarah Bryce, a wicketkeeper-batter from Scotland, for Rs 10 lakh, who has accumulated 1,290 runs in 58 T20I matches.
Concluding their auction efforts, the Delhi Capitals acquired Niki Prasad, a promising 19-year-old from Karnataka, for Rs 10 lakh. She was recently appointed captain of the U19 squad for the inaugural women’s U-19 Asia Cup in Kuala Lumpur.
With these new signings, the Delhi Capitals now possess a well-rounded and formidable team, featuring Indian stars like Jemimah Rodrigues and Shafali Verma, alongside international players such as Meg Lanning, Marizanne Kapp, and Jess Jonassen.
