New Delhi, March 15 (NationPress) Olympic bronze medallist wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt shared his joy over the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) organizing the selection trials for the upcoming Senior Asian Wrestling Championships scheduled to take place in Amman, Jordan later this month.

Dutt expressed his satisfaction at the WFI regaining control of the sport following the lifting of its suspension by the government. He mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is actively working towards bringing the 2036 Olympics to India, emphasizing that it would be a significant honor for the nation.

"I want to extend my gratitude to the government for lifting the ban on the WFI, allowing it to manage the sport in our country. After a two-year hiatus, we are now conducting selection trials to finalize the team for the Asian Championships," he stated during an interview with IANS at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium on Saturday.

Dutt was thrilled to see numerous junior wrestlers excel in the selection process, along with the return of seasoned competitors like Deepak Punia, Antim Panghal, Ritika, and Sumit.

Having observed the trials, Yogeshwar Dutt, who clinched a bronze medal in the 60kg weight class at the 2012 London Olympics, is optimistic that Indian wrestlers will perform admirably at the Senior Asian Wrestling Championship.

He also conveyed his belief that the wrestling scene would revert to its previous high standards, as the morale of athletes has been uplifted by the resumption of selection trials after two years.

Dutt anticipates success for the country in the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games to be held in Los Angeles. "I am confident that wrestling will regain its former glory, and we will achieve medals in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. We have secured bronze and silver medals; now, our wrestlers should aim for gold in 2028," he remarked.

"Our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, is striving for the 2036 Olympics, and if by divine favor, the Olympics are hosted in India, it will be a moment of immense pride for our country. It will also be a prime opportunity for wrestlers who have trained for 10-12 years to showcase their full potential," he concluded.
