New Delhi, Feb 16 (NationPress) Just after the BCCI revealed the complete schedule for the IPL 2025 season, Zaheer Khan, the mentor of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), remarked that the team is emerging as a formidable contender for the championship title.

The team, led by Rishabh Pant, will kick off its IPL 2025 campaign against Delhi Capitals, a team previously captained by the wicketkeeper-batter, in an evening match on March 24 at ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

Pant was acquired for INR 27 crore during the mega auction in Jeddah last year, making him the most expensive player in IPL history. LSG made it to the playoffs in the IPL 2022 and 2023 seasons, only to be eliminated in the Eliminator on both occasions. They finished seventh in the points table during IPL 2024.

According to Zaheer, "With Rishabh Pant at the helm, our squad boasts outstanding players like David Miller, Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran, Mitchell Marsh, Ayush Badoni, Mayank Yadav, Avesh Khan, and Ravi Bishnoi. LSG is indeed a strong contender for the IPL Cup. We aim to achieve this with the support and affection of cricket fans."

LSG will start its series of seven home matches at the Bharat Ratna Shree Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, beginning with a match against Punjab Kings on April 1. Following this, they will host Mumbai Indians (April 4), Gujarat Titans (April 12), Chennai Super Kings (April 14), Delhi Capitals (April 22), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (May 9), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (May 18).

Alongside Zaheer, Justin Langer serves as the head coach, with Vijay Dahiya and Lance Klusener assisting. Each team in the IPL will play 14 matches during the league phase, with the top four teams qualifying for the playoffs.

The Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator are scheduled for May 20 and 21 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. This will be followed by the Qualifier 2 and the final, which will take place at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on May 23 and 25, respectively.
