Amateur Zara Anand and professional Lavanya Jadon fired identical 4-under 64s on 17 June to share the first-round lead at the eighth leg of the Women's Pro Golf Tour, held at the Bangalore Golf Club. The pair sit one shot clear of the chasing pack in an event carrying a prize purse of ₹17 lakh.

How the Leaders Played

Zara, who is set to begin college in the United States later this year, opened with three pars before dropping shots on two consecutive holes. She recovered sharply with back-to-back birdies on the sixth and seventh, adding another on the ninth to turn at 1-under. A birdie on the tenth was followed by three consecutive gains from the 13th to the 15th, though a late bogey on the 17th denied her outright leadership.

Lavanya, who competed at the Singapore Ladies Masters the previous week, endured a difficult front nine — one birdie and two bogeys leaving her at 1-over at the turn. She then produced a stunning back-nine charge, birdieing five holes including a hat-trick of gains from the 11th to the 13th and two more on the 16th and 17th, to card a matching 64.

Chasing Pack and Contenders

Durga Nittur and Smriti Bhargav are tied third at 3-under 65, one shot behind the leaders. Nittur was as low as 5-under at one stage but back-to-back bogeys on the 16th and 17th curtailed her charge. Smriti's round featured four birdies against a single bogey.

Young amateurs Anvvi Dahhiya and Mahreen Bhatia are tied fifth at 2-under 66. Mahreen holed six birdies but dropped shots on four holes, while Anvvi posted five birdies against three bogeys. Mannat Brar, Karishma Govind, and amateur Ananyaa Sood are tied seventh at 1-under 67.

Big Names Struggle

The opening round proved difficult for several established players. Vani Kapoor — last week's runner-up and the 2025 Hero Order of Merit winner — carded a 4-over 72, managing just one birdie on the 18th hole, and is tied 34th alongside Amandeep Drall. Ridhima Dilawari and Vidhtari Urs are tied 14th with 1-over 69s, as are Heena Kang and Neha Tripathi. Tvesa Malik returned a 70 to sit tied 19th.

Tournament Conditions

The field began with 57 players on the Par-68 course, though Jahanvi Bakshi withdrew due to medical reasons before completing her round. Four players — Jasmine Shekar, Kashika Misra, Nayanika Sanga, and Ayushi Dutta — carded even-par 68s to round out the top ten.

With Zara's college move to the US looming, every competitive round on the domestic circuit adds weight to what is shaping up as a breakout season for the young amateur. The second round will determine whether the co-leaders can hold off a resurgent Vani Kapoor and the rest of the field.
