Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, March 18 (NationPress) Maharashtra's Agriculture Minister, Dattatray Bharne, announced on Tuesday that the 8th installment of the Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana will be directly credited to farmers' bank accounts next week.
A Government Resolution (GR) has been issued for this, approving an allocation of Rs 1,774 crore for the disbursement.
Approximately 90.34 lakh eligible farmers throughout the state stand to gain from this initiative.
Bharne noted that both Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar played vital roles in securing the necessary funds for this installment.
The Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana was initiated by the State Government, mirroring the Central Government’s PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. Its main goal is to provide direct financial support aimed at alleviating rising agricultural costs and enhancing farmers’ income.
Farmers in Maharashtra receive Rs 6,000 annually from the PM-Kisan (Central) scheme and an additional Rs 6,000 from the Namo Shetkari scheme (State), totaling Rs 12,000 each year.
Although the approved distribution amount for this installment is Rs 1,774 crore, the minister indicated that the actual disbursement to farmers will reach Rs 1,820 crore.
So far, seven installments have been distributed under this scheme. The 8th installment will cover the period from August 2025 to November 2025.
Following the Central Government's distribution of the 22nd installment of the PM-Kisan scheme on March 13, 2026, the State Government moved quickly to facilitate the Namo Shetkari installment, Bharne explained.
He emphasized that the scheme is effectively enhancing farmers’ income, lowering production costs, and making agriculture more sustainable.
“Building on the success of the first seven installments, this eighth installment will offer significant relief and reinforce the rural economy,” he stated.
The GR indicates that the decision to release the 8th installment is expected to provide direct financial assistance to help farmers manage agricultural expenses, thus boosting the rural economy and promoting sustainable farming practices.
