Patna, Feb 7 (NationPress) The Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, sharply criticized Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday regarding the custodial death of a young man at the Kanti police station in Muzaffarpur district.
In a post on the social media platform X, Tejashwi remarked: "A youth has been murdered within the lock-up of Kanti police station in Muzaffarpur. The killing of ordinary citizens by criminals supported and protected by the government and administration is becoming a disturbing trend in Bihar. Here, the police have turned into predators rather than protectors."
The former deputy Chief Minister pointed out that Nitish appears to be oblivious to the state’s increasingly deteriorating law and order conditions.
"Homicides, rapes, robberies, kidnappings, and extortion are happening daily in Bihar, indicating that the state is being managed by an unseen force, with 'DK Boss' dubbed as the 'Super CM' of Bihar," alleged the RJD leader.
Tejashwi's sister, Rohini Acharya, also expressed her discontent on social media, targeting both the Chief Minister and the Bihar Police.
She stated, "The police under Nitish Kumar's unrestrained government are exceeding all limits. Numerous painful and disgraceful incidents of police brutality have surfaced recently. Officers meant to uphold law and order are blatantly violating the law, which suggests that 'Law and order is not a priority for the Chief Minister, who also holds the Home Minister position.'"
Acharya further accused the Chief Minister of prioritizing his political survival and self-congratulation over the welfare of Bihar, leaving the state vulnerable to lawbreakers.
This criticism arises following a custodial death incident at Muzaffarpur’s Kanti police station, where a 35-year-old individual named Shivam Kumar Jha was discovered hanging in custody under questionable circumstances.
The event has triggered public outrage and scrutiny of the state's law enforcement practices.
In response, the state administration has suspended three police officers, including the SHO of the Kanti police station.
