New Delhi, Aug 14 (NationPress) As torrential rain battered the national capital, resulting in significant waterlogging and traffic disruptions throughout the city, leaders from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday launched a fierce critique of the Delhi government, questioning its readiness and humorously labeling it a "government of four engines."
Atishi, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Assembly and former Chief Minister of Delhi, took to the social media platform X to post a video showcasing waterlogged streets in Chhatarpur, stating, "This is the condition of Chhatarpur. Delhi roads turn into ponds after a short spell of rain. Is this the ‘Proper Management’ of Delhi Chief Minister @gupta_rekha and PWD Minister @p_sahibsingh?"
AAP Delhi unit chief Saurabh Bharadwaj also shared images from Greater Kailash on X, remarking, "Well, the boat started sailing in Greater Kailash too – Government of four engines.”
These comments follow tragic incidents from August 10, where eight individuals lost their lives in two separate occurrences, along with the flooding of the Giri Nagar pumping station in Kalkaji, which resulted in a water supply emergency in various localities.
LoP Atishi previously criticized the BJP-led Delhi government, attributing the mismanagement to not only the submerging of the city’s roads but also the severe water shortage.
In a prior statement, Atishi remarked, “Mismanagement by the four-engine BJP govt has not only submerged Delhi roads but caused a water crisis in Kalkaji. The Giri Nagar pumping station is completely submerged, and residents of Giri Nagar, Kalkaji, Govindpuri, and Govindpuri Extension are facing several days without water.”
Meanwhile, the Delhi-NCR region awakened to another wave of heavy rainfall on Thursday.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has escalated its previous 'Yellow' alert to a 'Red' warning for the day, advising of ongoing rainfall until at least August 17.
The IMD has reported light to moderate showers across most areas in Delhi while warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and intense downpours in the forthcoming hours.
Images from early morning depicted rain-soaked regions across the National Capital Region, including Noida, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad, resulting in extensive waterlogging and subsequent traffic jams.
Numerous locations in Delhi, such as Connaught Place, India Gate, Lajpat Nagar, Dwarka, and Rohini, experienced substantial waterlogging, causing significant traffic snarls as vehicles struggled through submerged roads.
These recent downpours follow earlier flight delays and cancellations at Delhi Airport due to similar weather conditions earlier this week.
