New Delhi, April 20 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Delhi, Rekha Gupta, launched a strong critique on the former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led administration, claiming it has left a troubling legacy of rampant corruption and financial mismanagement. This statement was made during the inauguration of 1,111 GPS-enabled water tankers designed to alleviate the water shortage in the capital.
At the event held at Nirankari Ground in Burari, CM Gupta stated, "Citizens have informed me that past governments have completely drained the state treasury. They have even burdened us with a massive debt. For instance, there’s a liability of Rs 6,000 crore solely for the metro project."
"It’s disgraceful that each day, new instances of corruption from the previous (AAP) administration keep emerging," she remarked.
CM Gupta emphasized that Delhi is beginning to recover from years of neglect.
"People of Delhi, grasp this reality -- the 27-year ordeal is gradually coming to a close. Every action is now being taken strategically for the benefit of Delhi," she asserted.
The Chief Minister reaffirmed her government’s commitment to rooting out corruption from all sectors.
"No official, department, or individual will have the chance to engage in corrupt practices under our administration," she affirmed.
The 1,111 GPS-enabled tankers are part of a broader initiative to enhance water availability in regions lacking adequate piped water supply. Spearheaded by the Delhi Jal Board, this initiative aims to ensure real-time tracking and improved accountability.
Delhi Water Minister Parvesh Verma, who inspected the launch site early that morning, mentioned that this measure would effectively dismantle the tanker mafia that flourished under the previous government.
"With our transparency model in place, and as India celebrates 10 years of Digital India under PM Modi, we have connected the Delhi Jal Board to an entirely digital IT dashboard at our headquarters in Jhandewalan," Verma stated.
"The prior administration turned Delhi into a swamp. We have managed to cultivate a lotus in that swamp and will persist in doing so," he added.
Verma explained that each tanker will follow designated routes, and the public will be able to monitor them via a mobile app.
"We will also track whether each tanker actually delivers water at the specified location, thanks to the sensors we are implementing," he noted.
He elaborated on the government’s comprehensive vision for the capital.
"Our aim is to transform Delhi into a beautiful, secure, and livable city, free from dust and waste, featuring an attractive riverfront, clean roads, immaculate flyovers, aesthetic improvements beneath flyovers, well-kept parks, green central verges, and fully operational streetlights. These are all our government’s priorities, and we will fulfill all these within a set timeframe," Verma concluded.
A newly established Command Centre at Nirankari Ground will function as the central hub for this initiative, monitoring every tanker’s movement, speed, and delivery schedule in real-time.
The Delhi Jal Board indicated that this initiative is a part of a larger strategy to modernize the city’s water distribution system, with a keen focus on preventing water theft, misuse, and uneven distribution.
