New Delhi, April 20 (NationPress) In a significant initiative to address the water requirements of Delhi during the intense summer months, the Delhi government is set to launch 1,111 GPS-enabled water tankers this Sunday.

This program aims to enhance the water supply in regions that have limited or no access to piped water services, with the flag-off ceremony taking place at Nirankari Ground in Burari.

Delhi Water Minister Parvesh Verma conducted an early morning inspection at the site ahead of the launch.

In a statement made on Friday, Verma explained that the deployment of these tankers is part of a broader mission to guarantee timely and transparent delivery of water to the public.

"We are committed to fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of providing water for all in a timely manner," he stated.

"This initiative is not merely about water delivery; it is about ensuring accountability, transparency, and dignity for every citizen who relies on our services," Verma added.

In attendance at the flag-off ceremony were several leaders from the BJP.

Delhi BJP MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat remarked to IANS, "Tankers are essential for the people of Delhi during the blistering summer months. Furthermore, these tankers come equipped with trackers to promote transparency and accountability, ensuring the public does not encounter any issues."

Delhi BJP MP Yogender Chandolia criticized the former AAP government led by Arvind Kejriwal for causing suffering among the populace during summer.

"Today marks a historic occasion for Delhi. Previously, the corrupt administration of Kejriwal allowed the tanker mafia to exploit the citizens, siphoning off water and selling it at inflated prices. Now, with the introduction of GPS, they will be unable to do so," Chandolia told IANS.

In remarks to IANS, BJP MLA Ravinder Negi expressed, "This new system will combat tanker mafias. Thanks to this initiative, the citizens of Delhi will not face any water-related issues during summer."

To facilitate effective monitoring, a newly established Command Centre at Nirankari Ground will track the tankers in real time.

This advanced facility will oversee the movement, speed, and delivery times, enabling officials to ensure that every tanker arrives at its destination promptly and efficiently, according to the Delhi Jal Board.

This initiative is part of the Delhi Jal Board's comprehensive strategy to modernize the city's water distribution system. The plan encompasses not only enhancements in supply but also rigorous oversight to prevent water theft, misuse, and uneven distribution across the capital.
