Chandigarh, Dec 23 (NationPress) Aam Aadmi Party MP Malvinder Singh Kang on Tuesday called for an unconditional apology from the BJP, accusing the party of offending Sikh sentiments through a social media post that depicted Guru Sahib and the Sahibzadas in cartoon form.
Kang expressed that it is profoundly disrespectful for the BJP to engage in such behavior during the sacred observance of the martyrdom of Mata Gujri and the Chhote and Bade Sahibzadas, a time when the Sikh community reflects on the immense sacrifices made by Guru Gobind Singh's family.
“While Sikhs globally are commemorating these solemn occasions with deep reverence, the BJP has once again revealed its anti-Sikh mentality by ridiculing the most revered figures in Sikh history through cartoons. This is not mere insensitivity; it is a blatant affront to Sikh beliefs,” Kang stated.
The AAP MP asserted that such actions demonstrate the BJP's lack of respect for religious sentiments and its ongoing tendency to trivialize Sikh history for political or social media advantage.
“The condemnation this act warrants is far more significant than words alone. Such behavior is intolerable under any circumstance,” he added.
Kang insisted on an unconditional public apology from the BJP leadership, arguing that anything less would only reinforce the notion that the party holds disdain for the Sikh faith.
He also criticized the silence of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), questioning its inaction on such a serious issue.
“The SGPC must take immediate and serious notice of this incident. Remaining silent on such a significant insult sends a misguided message and raises troubling questions,” Kang remarked.
On Monday, the BJP released a video honoring the unwavering bravery of the Sahibzadas of Guru Gobind Singh.
In a post on the social media platform X in Hindi, the BJP stated, “The tale of the Sahibzadas, who sacrificed everything for the sake of dharma, ignites every heart with patriotism and self-respect.”
