Brisbane, Nov 8 (NationPress) Following his recognition as Player of the Series in India's 2-1 T20I victory over Australia, left-handed opener Abhishek Sharma expressed that while they might have achieved larger scores during the series, they were pleased with their overall performance. Abhishek scored a total of 163 runs across three innings, maintaining an average of 40.75.
"I've eagerly awaited this tournament. Learning that we were headed to Australia for T20Is filled me with excitement. Throughout my career, I've noted that Australia is very batting-friendly. I believe we could have secured higher scores, but our performance in the series was commendable," Abhishek remarked during the post-match presentation.
He also recognized the challenge presented by Josh Hazlewood, commending the Australian pacer’s influence throughout the series. "The way he (Hazlewood) bowled was advantageous for any team. I've mentioned before that I always relish the contest between batters and bowlers. He is a world-class bowler," Abhishek stated.
"For anyone aiming to play quality cricket and succeed in the future, facing world-class bowlers is essential. I prepared specifically for such bowlers, as that’s how you can excel for your team," he added.
Abhishek also praised captain Suryakumar Yadav and head coach Gautam Gambhir for encouraging him to play with confidence. "A special mention to the captain and coach, who’ve entrusted me with the responsibility to just go out and express myself.”
“As a batter, scoring 20s and 30s can be challenging because you know you’re capable of more. The clarity they provided me to set the tone for the team has been integral to my practice both in the nets and during the off-season,” he added.
Looking forward to the upcoming Men’s T20 World Cup, Abhishek stated that representing India on such a grand stage would fulfill a childhood dream. "It's one of the most prestigious tournaments. Playing in the World Cup would be a dream come true for me. I've always envisioned winning the World Cup since I was a child. I will ensure I am prepared for that tournament."
