New Delhi, Sep 19 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the remarkable success of ABVP in the Delhi University Students' Union elections, emphasizing that it mirrors the youth's commitment to the 'Nation First' ideology.
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), linked to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, captured the President's position from the Congress-affiliated NSUI, as Aryan Maan emerged victorious with a margin of 16,196 votes. The ABVP also secured two of the remaining three positions within DUSU.
In a message on X, HM Shah stated, "Congratulations to the Parishad's workers on the remarkable victory of @ABVPVoice in the Delhi University Students' Union elections."
According to HM Shah, "This victory showcases the unwavering faith of the youth in the 'Nation First' ideology. This achievement will further propel the transformation of the Parishad's student power into national power."
The newly elected DUSU President, Aryan Maan, garnered 28,841 votes, outpacing NSUI candidate Joslyn Nandita Choudhary, who received 12,645 votes. Maan takes over from NSUI's Ronak Khatri, who held the position last year.
Rahul Jhansla of the NSUI secured the Vice President's position with 29,339 votes, while the ABVP candidate received 20,547 votes.
In addition to the President's role, the ABVP claimed seats for Secretary and Joint Secretary. The victorious candidates include: Kunal Chaudhary (Secretary) and Deepika Jha (Joint Secretary).
For Secretary, the ABVP received 23,779 votes compared to the NSUI's 16,177. In the contest for Joint Secretary, the ABVP achieved 21,825 votes, while the NSUI secured 17,380 votes.
More than 1.55 lakh students participated in the DUSU elections on Thursday, which faced allegations of violence and electoral fraud.
Notably, the 2025 DUSU elections featured a significant number of female candidates vying for the top position, a sight not seen in nearly two decades. The last woman to serve as DUSU president was Nupur Sharma in 2008-09.
Voting occurred in two shifts on Thursday - morning and evening. The morning session began at 8:30 a.m. slowly but gained momentum before concluding at 1 p.m. Evening voting took place from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. across eight colleges.
The overall turnout reached 39.45% across 52 centers with 195 booths and 711 EVMs. Over 2.75 lakh students from more than 50 colleges of Delhi University were eligible to participate in the DUSU elections.
