Bhopal, March 15 (NationPress) In a distressing event in Lodni village, located in the Alirajpur district of Madhya Pradesh, eight people, including a child, suffered significant injuries when a bullet discharged from a licensed 12-bore gun.

The occurrence took place around 2 p.m. on Friday during a funeral procession.

A senior police official from Alirajpur reported that the incident unfolded during the final rites of Nahar Singh, a local resident who had passed away earlier that day.

According to the officer, it is customary under tribal traditions to set off firecrackers and fire shots into the air as a tribute during funeral services.

“It is unclear whether the sarpanch accidentally fired the gun or if it was intentional; a thorough investigation will reveal the circumstances surrounding the incident,” he stated.

Sources within the police indicated that the accused followed traditional practices of discharging a firearm, but the bullet was accidentally released during the process.

Preliminary reports suggest that the unintentional firing caused gun pellets to spread out, injuring eight individuals who were attending the funeral.

The injured were quickly taken to the Umrali Health Center for initial medical assistance. They were then transferred to the district hospital using various means, including motorcycles and other available vehicles.

After receiving first aid at the district hospital in Alirajpur, seven of the injured were referred to MY Hospital in Indore for further treatment. Among them, four individuals are reported to be in serious condition.

One of the victims, a nine-year-old child named Prem Prakash, suffered a pellet wound to his leg.

Since his injuries were not life-threatening, his family decided to take him home after treatment at the district hospital, noted the police officer.

Authorities have acted promptly by filing a case under Section 100 (culpable homicide) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Samhita against Sarpanch Nan Singh.

However, other police sources have indicated that his nephew, Gamla Singh Dabar, is also under investigation as the firearm involved in the incident was registered in his name, raising concerns about the improper transfer of a licensed weapon.

The senior official declined to comment further, stating, “Any comments regarding the incident will only be possible after the investigation is complete. As it stands, the Sarpanch remains the accused.”

The injured individuals include Prem Prakash (9) from Lodni, Ranchhod Richadia (65) from Mundla, Jhungla Kamaliya (45) from Lodni, Sunil Hardas (17) from Lodni, Rohit Ristram (22) from Lodni, Rakesh Madhu Singh (35) from Bejda, Omprakash Bhushla (23) from Bejda, and Bhangdia Ichchha (26) from Lodni.
