Bhopal, Feb 20 (NationPress) The police in Morena, Madhya Pradesh have detained the primary suspect involved in the tragic shooting of a five-year-old boy, which occurred in the Jaura police station area of the district. The child was at a relative's wedding with his family when he was shot.

A senior police officer informed IANS via phone that the arrests took place during the night between Wednesday and Thursday. The main suspect was apprehended loitering near a culvert close to Bilgaon, while his accomplice was found in a secluded part of Jaura town.

As per the official, the shooting stemmed from a minor dispute—the child's grandfather had cautioned the suspect against displaying his country-made firearm due to the presence of children and the imminent arrival of the wedding procession. Following the grandfather's warning, the suspect initially left but returned later to shoot at the child.

The child's grandfather quickly took him to a nearby hospital. After initial care, doctors referred him to the Morena district hospital, where the young boy tragically succumbed to his injuries before any treatment could commence.

According to police, the child may have passed away en route to the hospital.

Authorities have dismissed claims that the boy was a victim of celebratory gunfire—a customary practice often seen during weddings in the Morena-Bhind and Chambal regions, which frequently result in serious injuries or fatalities among bystanders.

The suspect was incensed by the grandfather's admonition. The police noted that the suspect was identified through CCTV footage, prompting a manhunt for his capture.

Although the police did not disclose the suspect's name, they confirmed that multiple cases have been filed against him, primarily under section 103 of the Bhartiya Nyay Samhita (formerly section 302 of the Indian Penal Code) and other sections related to illegal arms possession. The Jaura police station has recorded three separate cases concerning illegal firearms.
