Ahmedabad, Jan 26 (NationPress) The city's ascension as the 'Sports City of India' was prominently showcased during the local celebrations for the 77th Republic Day, where Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi discussed the city's burgeoning sports facilities and its readiness to host significant international sporting events.

After raising the National Flag at the Makarba Police Ground, Sanghavi remarked that Ahmedabad is progressively evolving into a national sports center through ongoing investments and strategic planning.

“Ahmedabad is on its way to becoming the 'Sports City of India' and is gearing up to welcome international sporting events, including the 2036 Olympic Games,” he stated, emphasizing the city's increasing significance in India's sports arena.

Highlighting major developments like the Sardar Patel Sports Enclave and the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex, Sanghavi mentioned that these facilities are being constructed to meet international standards, accommodating various sports disciplines.

He further noted that the city is preparing to host globally recognized events, including the anticipated Commonwealth Games in 2030, which would solidify Ahmedabad's position on the worldwide sports stage.

In an effort to promote diverse and emerging sports, Sanghavi inaugurated a pickleball court during the festivities. He emphasized that fostering a range of sports is vital for creating an inclusive sports culture and enhancing participation among the youth and local citizens.

Linking sports advancement with youth empowerment, the Deputy Chief Minister pointed out that the youth of Gujarat are increasingly pursuing leadership roles and innovation. “The youth of Gujarat are no longer merely job seekers but are now job creators,” he said, reiterating that sports and education play a crucial role in developing discipline, teamwork, and self-confidence.

The Republic Day festivities highlighted this commitment to physical fitness and discipline. Law enforcement personnel demonstrated rifle drills, mounted police performances, and Special Operations Group showcases, while students exhibited yoga routines and synchronized formations, garnering applause from the audience.

Cultural showcases by students and tableaux from various departments were also integral to the event.

In a broader context, Sanghavi articulated that Ahmedabad's infrastructure development, connectivity, and urban advancements are instrumental in its rise as a premier sports destination.

He noted that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Gujarat is striving for balanced growth across various sectors, including sports, education, and public welfare.

The state-level Republic Day celebrations took place in the newly established Vav-Tharad district, presided over by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, in the company of Governor Acharya Devvrat.

The district-level festivities in Ahmedabad were attended by District Collector Sujit Kumar, District Development Officer Videh Khare, District Police Chief Omprakash Jat, elected officials, senior administrators, and a large crowd of residents, students, and educators.

The program concluded with the recognition of personnel for exceptional service, reinforcing the themes of discipline and excellence that are aligned with the city's sporting ambitions.
