On April 16 in New Delhi, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, the Union Minister for Communications and the Development of the Northeastern Region, announced the upcoming launch of regular flight operations by Akasa Air, linking Gwalior with both Delhi and Bengaluru. These services will operate from the Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Airport in Madhya Pradesh.

Scindia shared on X that the new routes—Gwalior–Delhi–Bengaluru and Bengaluru–Delhi–Gwalior—are set to enhance the connectivity of the Gwalior-Chambal region, providing passengers with quicker and more dependable access to key urban centers.

He emphasized that these new flights will invigorate opportunities in sectors such as trade, industry, education, and employment.

“Our commitment to linking the region with national air travel facilities through a state-of-the-art airport is now becoming a reality. I am optimistic that this initiative will significantly contribute to the comprehensive development of Gwalior,” he stated.

Following the lead of Air India and IndiGo, Akasa Air recently declared a fuel surcharge on its flights due to rising prices of aviation turbine fuel (ATF), a trend influenced by ongoing geopolitical issues in the Middle East.

According to a statement on X, the surcharge will range from Rs 199 to Rs 1,300 across its domestic and international routes.

This surcharge will affect all bookings made after 12:01 a.m. on March 15, 2026, while tickets purchased before that date will remain unaffected.
