Sanjay Saraogi, the Revenue and Land Reforms Minister of the Bihar government, was on hand to greet passengers arriving on the first Akasa flight at Darbhanga Airport.

He also presented the boarding pass to passengers departing, marking the commencement of this vital air route.

The new Delhi-Darbhanga flight service is set to significantly assist travelers, business professionals, and students traveling between Bihar and the national capital.

With the launch of the Delhi-Darbhanga flight, plans are already underway to establish a Mumbai-Darbhanga route in the near future. Minister Saraogi met with the director of Akasa Airlines, who assured that the Darbhanga-Mumbai services will be initiated soon.

“The introduction of more airline operations in Darbhanga will foster competition, which is expected to lead to decreased fares and enhanced services for travelers,” stated Saraogi.

“When SpiceJet began its operations, the fares from Darbhanga to Delhi skyrocketed to Rs 15,000- Rs 20,000, but now with Akasa Airlines, pre-booked tickets can be secured for only Rs 4,200- Rs 4,400. The lowest fare for the Delhi-Darbhanga route has been reduced to Rs 2,700, providing significant relief for budget travelers,” he further added.

Ankur Gupta, a local resident of Darbhanga and an Akasa passenger, expressed, “The staff were exceptionally courteous, and the flight experience was remarkable. Most importantly, Akasa’s fares are considerably lower than others. This is a tremendous relief for individuals like us!”

Currently, IndiGo, SpiceJet, and now Akasa are operating from Darbhanga Airport. Darbhanga is evolving into a crucial aviation hub for North Bihar, providing affordable connections to major metropolitan areas. The anticipated Mumbai flight will further enhance travel and business prospects.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been emphasizing the importance of improving regional air connectivity nationwide, particularly in Bihar, ensuring economical travel options for passengers.

Darbhanga Airport, recognized as the gateway to North Bihar, remains the only airport with direct flight connections to Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru.

Last year, PM Modi inaugurated the civil enclave at Darbhanga Airport, which cost Rs 910 crore, marking a key milestone in the aviation development of Bihar. In addition, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced three greenfield airports in Bihar during the 2025 Union Budget to further improve connectivity.

Furthermore, expansion initiatives are in progress for Jay Prakash Narayan Airport in Patna, with a new terminal nearing completion, expected to be inaugurated by PM Modi.

The Bihta Airport is also set to enhance connectivity in the vicinity of Patna.

The Purnea Airport, a vision project of PM Narendra Modi to connect the Seemanchal area, is advancing rapidly.

At present, commercial flight services are operational at Patna, Gaya, and Darbhanga Airports in Bihar. Through these initiatives, the Modi government aims to revolutionize Bihar's aviation sector, fostering economic growth, tourism, and accessibility for residents across the state.
