Guwahati, Dec 29 (NationPress) On Monday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah officially opened the Jyoti-Bishnu Antarjatik Kala Mandir in Guwahati, recognized as the largest auditorium in the Northeast. This significant event represents a pivotal moment in Assam's ambition to enhance its cultural and public infrastructure.

Built at a staggering cost of Rs 291 crore, this modern cultural complex boasts a seating capacity of 5,000 and spans approximately 45 bighas, equivalent to nearly 15 acres, in the Khanapara vicinity of the city.

According to officials, this facility is designed to serve as a premier venue for hosting large-scale cultural events, conferences, and both national and international gatherings, thereby positioning Guwahati as a prominent cultural center in the region.

In addition to the main auditorium, the complex features a cutting-edge convention center, five VIP suites, and a multi-level parking area capable of accommodating around 450 vehicles.

Officials noted that advanced audio-visual equipment, digital infrastructure, and modern stage facilities have been integrated to comply with global standards.

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, emphasized that the Jyoti–Bishnu Antarjatik Kala Mandir embodies the state government's dedication to fostering culture alongside sustainable development.

He remarked that the auditorium will function on green energy, featuring solar panels on the rooftop to minimize its carbon footprint and align with Assam’s environmental objectives.

The auditorium is named to honor two towering cultural figures from Assam -- Jyotiprasad Agarwala and Bishnu Prasad Rabha, and it is expected to become a vital platform for artists, cultural organizations, and institutions throughout the Northeast.

Moreover, officials indicated that the venue will facilitate large public gatherings and government events.

During his visit, the Union Home Minister is also set to honor around 1,000 beneficiaries of the Congenital Heart Disease program at the newly inaugurated auditorium, underscoring the government’s commitment to social welfare alongside infrastructure advancement.

The inauguration of the Jyoti–Bishnu Antarjatik Kala Mandir has received widespread acclaim from cultural communities and officials, who regard it as a substantial enhancement to Assam's cultural landscape.

This initiative is anticipated to boost cultural tourism, promote large-scale events, and further solidify Guwahati’s role as a regional hub for culture, governance, and public involvement in the Northeast.
