Amit Shah Accuses Congress of Diverting Rs 150 Crore Annually from Assam's Healthcare Budget
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Guwahati, March 15 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday leveled serious allegations against the Congress party, claiming they misappropriated approximately Rs 150 crore each year from the healthcare budget of Assam throughout their 15 years in power. He argued that this corruption significantly undermined the public health system in the state.
While inaugurating and laying the foundation stones for healthcare projects valued at Rs 2,092 crore in Guwahati, HM Shah remarked that the healthcare conditions in Assam a decade back were dire, attributing this to what he termed as mismanagement and corruption during the Congress era.
He asserted that under Congress rule, funds allocated for enhancing the health sector were allegedly diverted for personal gains of leaders and their families, resulting in a deteriorating state of hospitals and medical facilities.
“Around 10 years ago, the healthcare system in Assam was in disarray. The Congress government prioritized the financial interests of its leaders’ families over providing quality healthcare services to the populace,” HM Shah stated.
The Union Home Minister emphasized that the governments led by the BJP at both the Centre and the state level are dedicated to delivering affordable and accessible healthcare for every segment of society.
Praising Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, HM Shah noted that under his guidance, the state’s healthcare infrastructure has seen remarkable improvements in recent years.
He mentioned that Assam’s medical facilities are rapidly aligning with the quality standards of more developed states like Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Karnataka.
According to HM Shah, the initiatives launched on Sunday are set to bolster healthcare delivery in the state and enhance the availability of quality treatment for residents, especially those in rural and remote areas.
He added that the Central and Assam governments are collaborating to expand medical infrastructure, establish new healthcare facilities, and upgrade existing hospitals, which would eliminate the need for residents to seek advanced treatment outside the state.
HM Shah concluded by stating that the government remains committed to developing a robust healthcare system that guarantees both affordability and accessibility to all citizens.
