Guwahati, April 16 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has launched a strong critique against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi following the revelation of his name in the chargesheet submitted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday.

Sarma accused Rahul Gandhi of engaging in significant corruption and deceitful practices concerning the National Herald newspaper. “After the company was allegedly taken over unlawfully by the Gandhi family, its valuation skyrocketed to Rs 2000 crore from a mere Rs 50 lakh. Furthermore, the company was established under section 9 of the Companies Registration Act, which prohibits profit-making. Nonetheless, the Gandhi family profited from it,” CM Sarma stated during a media interaction on Wednesday.

“Today, numerous Congress supporters have protested against the ED's chargesheet; however, these unfortunate individuals remain unaware that their leader, Rahul Gandhi, is entangled in extensive corruption. I implore Congress workers to demand that their leader return the public funds he has misappropriated from the party's finances. Have you seen the current state of Congress party offices? They are in lamentable condition. That Rs 2000 crore could have been used to improve the state of the party offices. The condition of Congress offices in Assam is equally dismal,” he remarked.

“It is essential for people to recognize that while Rahul Gandhi has been profiting, the struggling Congress workers have been neglected. I feel a sense of compassion for them. I greatly sympathize with the Congress workers on the ground. Rahul Gandhi often directs accusations of corruption towards others; however, it is now time for the mother-son duo to demonstrate their innocence in court,” the CM concluded.

The ED submitted a chargesheet on Tuesday concerning a money laundering investigation linked to the National Herald newspaper. In addition to Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, the chargesheet identifies Congress leaders Sam Pitroda and Suman Dubey as co-defendants. This case stems from a complaint lodged by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy in 2014, regarding the alleged acquisition of assets valued at over Rs 2,000 crore by Associated Journals Limited (AJL), the publisher of National Herald, and their subsequent transfer to Young Indian – a company where both Sonia and Rahul Gandhi each possess a 38 percent stake.
