Amit Shah's Busy Campaign Day: Five Rallies and a Roadshow in Bengal
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, April 13 (NationPress) In the midst of the significant two-phase West Bengal Assembly elections, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to conduct a series of five consecutive campaign events across the state on Monday.
His day will kick off with two public addresses in Birbhum district; the first at Sainthia at noon, followed by another in Khayrasole at 1:15 p.m.
At 2:35 p.m., he will then speak at a public meeting in Raniganj, located in West Burdwan district. Following this, he will participate in a roadshow at the steel city of Durgapur at 4 p.m., also situated in West Burdwan.
The day's activities will conclude with an organizational meeting that Shah will chair at Durgapur at 8 p.m.
This intensive schedule aligns with an important hearing at the Supreme Court regarding the recently concluded Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in the state. The Supreme Court bench, led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, is anticipated to make a pivotal ruling on whether 27 lakh names, which were expunged during the judicial process, will be eligible to vote in the upcoming polls on April 23 and April 29.
The proceedings will commence at 2:30 p.m. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has already frozen the voters’ list in West Bengal for the two phases, meaning no new names can be added unless directed by the Supreme Court.
In preparation for this, 19 Appellate Tribunals have been established within West Bengal to evaluate the status of the 27 lakh cases that were deleted during the judicial review. The Supreme Court's decision will ultimately determine whether the names cleared by these tribunals will be allowed to participate in this month's Assembly elections.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is scheduled to conduct three consecutive public meetings in Suri (Birbhum district), Ausgram (East Burdwan district), and Durgapur (East Burdwan district).
In a similar vein, Trinamool Congress General Secretary and Lok Sabha member, Abhishek Banerjee, will also be addressing a series of public rallies at Karimpur and Ranaghat in Nadia district and Baduria in North 24 Parganas.
