Is HM Amit Shah Ready for a Two-Day Bengal Visit Before State Elections?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Jan 28 (NationPress) With the significant Assembly elections approaching in West Bengal later this year, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled for a two-day trip to the election-sensitive state at the end of this month, according to sources from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
An insider from the state BJP committee revealed that Shah is expected to land in Kolkata on the evening of January 30.
On that same evening, the Union Minister will convene an essential meeting with the core committee members of the BJP in West Bengal to address election preparedness.
According to the itinerary, on January 31, Shah will speak at a public rally in the former industrial hub of Barrackpore in the North 24 Parganas district, an area with a notably high population of Hindi-speaking voters.
"He (Union Home Minister Amit Shah) plans to return to New Delhi on the evening of January 31, based on the current schedule," added the state BJP committee member.
Political analysts suggest that the series of visits to West Bengal—first by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, followed by the newly elected BJP President Nitin Nabin, and now by Amit Shah—highlights the BJP's serious approach towards the upcoming State Assembly elections.
Earlier this month, Modi conducted two political rallies, the first on January 17 in Malda district and another on January 18 at Singur in the Hooghly district.
Nitin Nabin is currently on a two-day visit to West Bengal, where he addressed a rally at the industrial town of Durgapur in the West Burdwan district on Wednesday.
During his last visit to West Bengal last month, Shah focused more on internal organizational meetings, avoiding public rallies or roadshows.
His only public engagement during that trip was a press conference.
However, this upcoming visit will combine administrative functions with a public address.
