Is HM Amit Shah Visiting Bengal Later in February?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Feb 4 (NationPress) As the pivotal Assembly elections in West Bengal approach later this year, the Union Home Minister Amit Shah is anticipated to embark on a two-day visit to the state during the third week of this month.
A member of the state committee from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) indicated that Shah is expected to land in Kolkata either on the evening of February 17 or the morning of February 18, returning to New Delhi on February 19.
This visit, however, will differ from his previous trip at the end of January, where he addressed two public rallies and held a workers' meeting in Barrackpore (North 24 Parganas) and Siliguri (Darjeeling). This time, his focus will solely be on internal administrative discussions.
“His upcoming visit coincides with the higher secondary exams conducted by the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education. Hence, he will avoid any public rallies,” remarked the BJP state committee member.
During this visit, Amit Shah is expected to assess the BJP's organizational activities and delineate the responsibilities of top party leaders, including elected representatives like MPs and MLAs.
“On Tuesday, our new BJP President, Nitin Nabin, convened a meeting with the party’s elected MPs from West Bengal, urging them to intensify their focus on their respective regions as the Assembly elections draw near. Shah is expected to clarify the roles of the MPs and legislators accordingly,” added the BJP state committee member.
There may also be preliminary discussions regarding the candidate selection criteria for the 294 Assembly constituencies in the state.
Political analysts believe that the series of visits by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President Nabin, and Amit Shah since the beginning of the year, well before the election dates are announced, highlights the BJP's serious approach towards the upcoming Assembly elections.
In January, Prime Minister Modi held two political rallies, first on January 17 in Malda and then on January 18 in Singur (Hooghly).
Nitin Nabin also visited West Bengal for two days starting from January 27, where he addressed a public rally in Durgapur (West Burdwan).
