Is HM Amit Shah Planning a Visit to Bengal in February?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Feb 4 (NationPress) As the significant Assembly elections in West Bengal approach later this year, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is anticipated to embark on a two-day trip to the state during the third week of this month.
A member of the state committee from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) indicated that the Union Home Minister might reach Kolkata either on the evening of February 17 or in the early hours of February 18, with his return to New Delhi projected for February 19.
This visit will differ from his previous one in January, where he held two public rallies in Barrackpore (North 24 Parganas) and Siliguri (Darjeeling). During this trip, the Union Home Minister is set to prioritize internal administrative meetings.
According to the BJP state committee member, Amit Shah's upcoming visit will coincide with the higher secondary examinations organized by the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education. Consequently, he will abstain from participating in public rallies this time.
During his visit, the Union Home Minister is expected to evaluate the BJP's organizational efforts and clarify the roles of leading party members, including elected officials such as MPs and legislators.
Recently, the new BJP President, Nitin Nabin, met with the party's elected MPs from West Bengal. He urged the MPs to focus more on their constituencies in light of the upcoming Assembly elections. Now, Amit Shah is expected to outline specific assignments for the MPs and legislators in this regard.
There may also be initial discussions regarding the criteria for selecting candidates for the 294 Assembly constituencies across the state.
Political analysts believe that the frequent visits of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President Nabin, and Amit Shah since the beginning of this year, ahead of the election dates being announced, underscore the BJP's serious approach towards the West Bengal Assembly elections this time.
In January, Prime Minister Modi addressed two political rallies: one on January 17 in Malda district and another on January 18 in Singur, Hooghly district.
Nitin Nabin also undertook a two-day visit (starting January 27) to West Bengal, delivering a public address in the industrial town of Durgapur in West Burdwan district.
