Will HM Shah's Visit to Siliguri Boost BJP's Mass Outreach?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 31 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah is currently in West Bengal for a two-day visit and is set to arrive in Siliguri today as part of a significant political outreach initiative, enhancing the party's preparations for the approaching state Assembly elections.
During this trip, HM Shah will head to Siliguri in North Bengal, where a crucial meeting is organized for 3 pm at the Gosainpur Airport Authority ground in Bagdogra.
On Saturday, he will conduct two public rallies integrated with party workers' conferences. His first event will be held in the morning at Barrackpore in the North 24 Parganas district, an area recognized as a former industrial hub. Later, he will lead another significant rally at Siliguri in the Darjeeling district, aimed at engaging the North Bengal populace.
BJP sources indicate that workers from four organizational districts or Lok Sabha constituencies—Bangaon, Barasat, Basirhat, and Barrackpore, all situated in the North 24 Parganas district—will predominantly attend the Barrackpore event. Conversely, party workers from five organizational districts—Siliguri, Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar—are expected to gather at the Siliguri rally.
A BJP state committee member asserted that these events aim to invigorate local workers and fortify the party's organizational framework in both North and South Bengal.
This visit signifies a change in focus compared to HM Shah's previous trip to the state last month, which was exclusively centered on internal organizational tasks, with the only public engagement being a press conference. This time, however, Shah’s emphasis will be on mass outreach initiatives, coupled with an assessment of the party’s organizational strategies.
The state has seen a series of high-profile visits this month, starting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, followed by the BJP’s newly-elected president Nitin Nabin, and now Amit Shah, even before the official announcement of election dates.
Earlier this month, Prime Minister Modi addressed two prominent political rallies—on January 17 in Malda district and on January 18 at Singur in Hooghly district. Nitin Nabin also conducted a two-day visit from January 27, during which he addressed a public rally at Durgapur in West Burdwan district.
