Amaravati, March 24 (NationPress) By 2028, every household in Andhra Pradesh will have access to safe drinking water through the Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0.
Today, officials from the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti and the Andhra Pradesh government officially signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0 in New Delhi.
Union Minister for Jal Shakti, C.R. Paatil, commended Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for advocating the extension of the Jal Jeevan Mission with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
During the MoU signing, which he attended virtually from Amaravati, Chief Minister Naidu reiterated the government's dedication to providing consistent and safe drinking water to every rural household under the JJM initiative.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining rural drinking water supply systems, a responsibility that has been assigned to local panchayats.
Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan is actively overseeing the mission's implementation.
Naidu also expressed his appreciation to Prime Minister Modi for the mission's extension until 2028 and requested additional support to complete the Polavaram Project before the Godavari Pushkarams.
Union Minister C.R. Paatil noted that in the initial phase of the mission, tap connections were installed in 16 crore households across India, with an additional 3 crore households still awaiting coverage.
He proposed that women's groups from DWACRA in Andhra Pradesh be engaged to perform water quality testing, thus empowering rural women.
This mission has alleviated the burden of water collection for nearly 9 crore women nationwide.
Senior officials, including Jal Shakti Secretary Ashok Kumar Meena and AP Panchayati Raj Principal Secretary S. S. Rawat, participated in the event, while Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan joined the ceremony virtually from Amaravati.
