Anubhuti Kashyap Reveals Key Elements in Crafting ‘Accused’ Storyline
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Feb 27 (NationPress) Director Anubhuti Kashyap, who is garnering significant acclaim for her newly released streaming film ‘Accused’, has outlined the essential elements she considered vital for narrating the story.
Anubhuti, sister of renowned filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, shared insights with IANS during the film's promotional activities. She emphasized that a key priority for her as a storyteller was to avoid sensationalizing the narrative. ‘Accused’ revolves around a woman accused of sexually harassing a victim and features notable performances from Konkona Sen Sharma and Pratibha Ranta.
She remarked to IANS, “The subject matter demanded a particular perspective, requiring an empathetic approach. We felt it should not be treated sensationally. My vision never aligned with that perspective. Thus, we made a deliberate choice in how we approached the script. We aimed to depict events that could evoke discomfort in viewers—not just the unconventional relationship, but various other aspects at the story's heart. This became one of our guiding principles.”
Further elaborating, she stated, “We embraced the challenge of portraying plot points, scenes, and characters that might evoke unease. We maintained that perspective, ensuring a level of ambiguity throughout the film. Not every element is neatly resolved, which was an intentional decision rooted in the film's subject matter, demanding such a storytelling style.”
‘Accused’ is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
