Bhopal, May 3 (NationPress) The police have taken into custody a suspect connected to the abduction and sexual assault of a four-year-old girl in Khagamau village, located within the Majhgawan Police Station jurisdiction of Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur district.
The alleged perpetrator, identified as Kamlesh Lodhi, also known as Kariya, 22 years old, deceived the minor with toffees while she was unattended and led her away under the guise of attending a nearby wedding dinner.
After committing the heinous act, he left her near a grocery store and escaped. He was apprehended on Friday and subsequently jailed, according to the investigation officer.
This incident occurred on the evening of April 26, around 7:30 p.m., coinciding with a wedding celebration in the village.
The girl's family members had already gone to the event, while she wanted to accompany them.
Her mother had dressed her up and placed her outside the house, promising they would leave together after completing household tasks.
However, while the mother was busy inside, the child wandered off alone, as noted by investigation officer Dhannu Singh during an interview with IANS.
While waiting outside for her mother, the girl encountered the accused, who she trusted and called “Bhaiya” (elder brother).
Exploiting the child’s trust, he took her to an isolated area behind a school in the village and assaulted her.
Hours later, a woman discovered the girl by the roadside, visibly shaken and crying uncontrollably, according to police reports.
Upon returning home, bloodstains on her clothing raised alarms among her family, prompting them to rush to the police station to report the incident, as per the police officer.
Due to a lack of a female officer at that time, the formal complaint was filed in the early hours of April 27 under pertinent provisions of the Bhartiya Nyaya Samhita (BNS) and the POCSO Act.
A medical examination confirmed that the child had been sexually assaulted, the officer stated. Early efforts to identify the culprit were challenging, as the child could only refer to him as “Bade Bhaiya”.
Investigators gathered several individuals matching her description, including wedding guests from outside the village.
When shown a photograph of the suspect, the girl expressed fear, confirming his identity.
Initially, the accused attempted to mislead the police by naming others and claiming he had been away from the village during the incident.
However, after thorough questioning, he ultimately confessed to the crime.
The police apprehended Lodhi late on May 2, and he was presented before a special court under the POCSO Act, where he was remanded into judicial custody as investigations continue.
