Bhopal, April 28 (NationPress) A four-year-old girl was subjected to a sexual assault while en route to a wedding location close to her residence in Khagamau village under the Majhgawan police station in the Jabalpur district, as reported by officials on Monday.

The male family members had already departed for the wedding.

“After getting ready at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Saturday (April 26), the little girl excitedly ran towards the venue alone to join her father and siblings. Subsequently, her mother left as well. This left an opportunity for the unknown assailant to commit this atrocious act mid-way,” said investigating officer Dhannu Singh to IANS.

When the mother and other female relatives arrived at the wedding and realized the child was absent, they began a search for her.

After several hours, a female worker found the girl on the roadside, clearly frightened and crying inconsolably, the officer stated.

“The mother brought her home, where bloodstains were found on her clothing, leading her to hurry to the police station. Due to some delays, as there was no female police officer on duty, the report was officially filed in the early hours of April 27 under applicable sections including 137 (2), 64, and 65 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sections 5 and 6 of the POCSO Act,” the officer explained, adding that a medical examination has confirmed the sexual assault on the innocent child.

These sections of BNS and POCSO pertain to kidnapping, rape, and sexual assault against a child.

In response to the complaint, the police commenced an investigation and apprehended several suspects for questioning.

The child was taken to a hospital for examination and treatment, the officer noted, adding, “Witnesses reported seeing the girl heading towards the wedding venue, raising suspicions that the accused might have been among the wedding guests. The perpetrator likely abducted the child, took her to a secluded area, committed the crime, and escaped under the cover of night.”

The police continue their efforts to identify and catch the perpetrator, and the investigation is ongoing.
