Artillery Assault by Paramilitary Forces Claims 15 Lives in North Darfur, Sudan: Authorities

Khartoum, Dec 12 (NationPress) Tragically, at least 15 individuals lost their lives and 64 others were injured in an artillery strike carried out by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on a displacement camp and a market situated south of El Fasher, the capital of Sudan's North Darfur State, as reported by a local health official.
According to Ibrahim Khatir, director-general of North Darfur State's health ministry, 'Currently, we have confirmed that 15 people have died and 64 others sustained injuries, while the RSF militia continues to bombard the Zamzam camp and the livestock market.' He noted that a significant portion of the casualties were children and women.
The Coordination of Resistance Committees in El Fasher, a local non-governmental organization, also verified in a statement that the RSF's attack on the market and Zamzam camp resulted in more than 60 injuries and 15 fatalities, which included children, women, and elderly individuals, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
An eyewitness recounted that Wednesday's shelling, which began at 6:00 a.m. local time, was the 'most intense' since the RSF started their siege on El Fasher on May 10.
'Approximately six shells landed in the center of the Zamzam camp, which is densely populated with displaced individuals, while four others struck the livestock market south of El Fasher,' the eyewitness described.
Since mid-April 2023, Sudan has been engulfed in a conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF, leading to over 27,000 deaths and the displacement of more than 14 million people, according to estimates provided by international organizations.
