CM Sarma Highlights Assam's Development Gains Under Current Government
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Guwahati, March 9 (NationPress) Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, stated on Monday that the state is now receiving increased attention in terms of development projects, with significant infrastructure efforts being finalized at an unprecedented pace under the "double-engine" governance model.
In a statement shared on the social media platform X, Sarma claimed that Assam was previously deprived of its rightful share of development projects during the Congress-led administrations, leading to considerable delays in various initiatives.
"Throughout the Congress period, Assam was consistently denied its fair share in development projects, and the few projects we did receive were often significantly delayed," the Chief Minister expressed.
He pointed out that the scenario has shifted under the double-engine government, which indicates the same political party holding power at both the national and state levels.
"With the Double Engine Govt, Assam is not only prioritized but is also witnessing projects being completed in record time," Sarma emphasized. He highlighted the healthcare sector, mentioning the establishment of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Guwahati as a prime example of swift project execution.
According to Sarma, this prestigious healthcare facility exemplifies the Centre’s dedication to enhancing medical infrastructure in Assam and improving access to advanced healthcare services in the area.
Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in April 2023, the AIIMS in Guwahati has already commenced providing a variety of specialized medical services. The Chief Minister routinely underscores the importance of collaborative efforts between the state government and the Centre in advancing development across healthcare, infrastructure, connectivity, and education sectors.
Officials have also indicated that numerous other projects in Assam are currently progressing more rapidly due to increased central support and improved implementation strategies. Sarma’s comments arise amidst ongoing political discussions between the ruling coalition and opposition parties regarding the speed and allocation of development projects within the state.
