Guwahati, March 25 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, made a pointed critique of the Congress party on Wednesday while unveiling significant infrastructure initiatives, including a proposed six-lane expressway connecting Guwahati and Nagaon.
During a press briefing in Nagaon, Sarma asserted that the Congress party lacks a viable political future in India.
“The Congress may establish governments in Pakistan and Bangladesh, but it will never succeed in forming a government in Assam,” he stated.
In a subtle reference to Assam Congress President Gaurav Gogoi and his purported ties to Pakistan, the Chief Minister remarked, “My wife has no affiliations with Pakistan, and there is no possibility of my joining the Congress.”
Taking aim at the Opposition, Sarma accused Congress leaders of engaging in reckless political maneuvers.
He further alleged that a Congress figure involved in rhino poaching would be too ashamed to show their face in Nagaon.
“The public is aware of such activities, and those accountable will face justice,” he warned.
Focusing on development, Sarma detailed plans for a six-lane expressway designed to enhance connectivity and stimulate economic growth in the region.
“We are initiating a modern express highway linking Guwahati and Nagaon, significantly cutting travel time and upgrading infrastructure,” he explained.
Sarma underscored the commitment of the BJP-led state government to development and effective governance, contrasting it with what he described as the Congress' “politics of negativity.”
As the Assembly elections loom, Sarma's comments indicate an escalating political clash in Assam, as the BJP intensifies its offensive against the Opposition while showcasing its development agenda.
