Guwahati, Nov 9 (NationPress) In a significant move to fulfill his key pledge of generating one lakh government jobs, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Sunday that the BJP-led state government has successfully appointed 126,793 youth to various government positions since taking office.
During a ceremony at the Veterinary College Playground in Khanapara, the Chief Minister officially distributed appointment letters to 5,550 candidates who qualified for teaching positions in lower and upper primary schools.
Out of these appointments, 3,800 individuals have been designated as lower primary teachers and 1,750 as upper primary teachers.
The event also featured the distribution of 8,799 tablets to teachers as part of the Shikshak Samal Package and the launch of 4,280 tablets for students under the Aarohan Scheme.
While addressing attendees, CM Sarma reminisced about his promise made during the 2021 elections to provide one lakh government jobs if his party won.
"Historically, 14 Chief Ministers have served Assam, yet none have managed to provide more than 25,000 appointments in a single term. Our administration has not only met but exceeded the one lakh target, and we are on track to surpass 1.5 lakh soon," he stated.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the ongoing recruitment process has been entirely transparent and merit-based, effectively removing issues of corruption, nepotism, and political favoritism that previously plagued government hiring.
"For years, acquiring a government job in Assam was synonymous with corruption and legal battles. Today, the youth can aspire to secure jobs based on merit and dedication," asserted CM Sarma, noting that no legal disputes or controversies have arisen from recent recruitment efforts.
He highlighted the state government's aim for employment opportunities, stating that aside from direct government jobs, the administration is promoting self-employment through various welfare and entrepreneurship initiatives.
He pointed out that Assam's rapid industrial growth—including projects like the Jagiroad Semiconductor Facility, Numaligarh Bio-Refinery, Chapar Thermal Power Plant, and Namrup Fertiliser Plant—will further create job opportunities for skilled individuals, necessitating well-trained educators.
Reaffirming his dedication to enhancing the education system, the Chief Minister mentioned the establishment of 16 new universities, women's colleges in remote regions, and schools in tea plantation areas.
He encouraged the newly appointed teachers to embody sincerity, integrity, and commitment in educating the youth, declaring, "You represent the foundation of Assam's future."
The event was attended by Education Minister Ranoj Pegu and other high-ranking officials.
