Did a man attempt to rape a specially-abled woman in Bengaluru?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Nov 12 (NationPress) A man, reportedly under the influence of ganja, has been accused of attempting to rape a differently-abled woman in Bengaluru, according to police reports released on Wednesday.
Witnesses detained the suspect, named Vignesh, also known as Dadu, and subjected him to a beating. He was subsequently handed over to the police.
This incident occurred on November 9 but has only recently come to public attention, especially after a video showcasing the suspect's beating went viral on social media.
Reports indicate that the attack took place in broad daylight while the victim was home alone. The victim, a young woman with special needs, is non-verbal and has limited mobility, resembling a child in her developmental capacity.
Her family had left to attend a wedding, leaving her unattended. At approximately 11 a.m., the accused forced his way into the residence and locked the door from the inside.
Upon returning home, the victim's mother found the door secured and, out of concern, kicked it open.
Once inside, she discovered her daughter in a distressing state on the bed, while the suspect had hidden himself in a corner of the house as she attempted to enter.
After being seen by the mother, the accused fled the scene.
Local residents, upon witnessing him escape and hearing the mother’s cries for help, pursued him, apprehended him, and delivered him to the police.
The Adugodi Police have since arrested the suspect and are continuing their investigation.
This incident follows a troubling pattern of violence against vulnerable individuals in the region, including an alleged gang-rape of a mentally-challenged woman in Hassan, and other cases involving minors in various districts of Karnataka.
