Srinagar, Jan 28 (NationPress) A significant snow avalanche impacted the Sonamarg tourist destination located in the Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir, however, officials confirmed on Wednesday that there were no casualties.

The avalanche struck the Sarbal region of Sonamarg at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening.

According to officials, the avalanche affected several homes and hotels, as well as damaging parked vehicles in the vicinity. Fortunately, no lives were lost as a result of the incident.

Both Sonamarg and other elevated areas in the Ganderbal district are known to be susceptible to avalanches; thus, authorities have been providing timely advisories to residents in these high-risk zones, urging them to stay indoors during and after snowfall.

In the last four days, roughly 4 feet of snow has accumulated in Sonamarg. The weather department has predicted dry, overcast conditions starting Wednesday, with light rain and snow expected in some isolated regions.
