Colombo, Sep 25 (NationPress) In a demonstration of India's dedication to enhancing community health and celebrating shared cultural ties with Sri Lanka, India's High Commissioner, Santosh Jha, inaugurated a significant Ayurveda camp at the sacred site of Sri Vijayarama Purana Viharaya in the coastal town of Ambalangoda on Thursday.
As per the statement from the Indian High Commission in Colombo, this camp, organized in collaboration with the Consulate General of India in Hambantota and the Southern Provincial Council of Sri Lanka, aims to offer free medical check-ups, consultations, and medications to hundreds of local residents.
On this special occasion, the High Commissioner also provided financial support for the temple's development.
In a gesture honoring the shared Buddhist heritage of India and Sri Lanka, High Commissioner Jha also visited Wewurukannala Raja Maha Viharaya in Dikwella and Paravi Duwa Temple in Matara, where he offered prayers for a stronger bond between India and Sri Lanka, as well as for the prosperity of both nations' citizens.
In July, reflecting this cultural connection, a replica of King Ashoka's Vaishali Pillar of Dhamma and a special exhibition of the sacred Kapilavastu Relics were inaugurated by High Commissioner Jha at the Raja Guru Sri Subuthi Maha Viharaya Temple.
This event took place at the Raja Guru Sri Subuthi Maha Viharaya in Waskaduwa, a notable Buddhist temple renowned for housing the sacred relics of Lord Buddha and his two principal disciples, Sariputra and Maudgalyayana.
High Commissioner Jha also collaborated with Waskaduwawe Mahindawansa Mahanayake Thero, head of the Amarapura Sambuddha Sasanodaya Maha Nikaya, to inaugurate a special exposition of the sacred Kapilavastu Relics.
Earlier in April, during his visit to Sri Lanka, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the upcoming exhibition of the Holy Relics of Lord Buddha, discovered in 1960 in Gujarat's Aravali region, highlighting the ancient spiritual bonds between the two nations.
Emphasizing the profound people-to-people connections and the shared Buddhist heritage, the revered relics of Lord Buddha from Kapilawasthu, found in 1970 in India, have been displayed in Sri Lanka on two occasions.
