Baloch Militant Factions Launch Attacks on Pakistani Forces in Balochistan
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Quetta, March 3 (NationPress) A number of Baloch militant factions have recently executed a string of assaults against Pakistani military and police units throughout various regions of Balochistan, leading to significant casualties and infrastructural damage, according to local reports on Tuesday.
The Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) took responsibility for an assault on a Pakistani military installation in the Shadi Kaur Dam vicinity of Pasni in the Gwadar district on Monday. The attack involved light machine guns, rockets, and other automatic firearms.
BLF spokesperson Major Gwahram Baloch indicated that the assault was carried out from multiple positions, resulting in the deaths of two Pakistani military personnel and injuries to several others. He noted that the camp's physical infrastructure suffered significant destruction.
In a different incident on the same day, the BLF reported executing a "coordinated and intense" attack aimed at Pakistan's Frontier Corps primary camp located in the Lond Nausham area of Kohlu district, as reported by The Balochistan Post.
The group claimed its fighters encircled the camp and unleashed an assault using rocket launchers and automatic weaponry, with several rockets striking within the compound, leading to "heavy casualties and material losses".
In another event, the Baloch Republican Guards (BRG) announced that it targeted a police patrol near the Mir Hassan police station in the Naseerabad district.
BRG spokesperson Dostain Baloch stated that its operatives planted and detonated explosives via a remote-controlled device as a police vehicle passed, resulting in casualties and damage to the vehicle.
Additionally, another armed faction, the United Baloch Army (UBA), reportedly attacked a Pakistani military surveillance system in the Mach area of Kachhi district in Balochistan on the evening of March 1.
UBA spokesperson Mazar Baloch claimed that their fighters demolished a surveillance tower located between Aab-e-Gum and Geshani, close to a main Pakistani army camp.
He stated that the tower was equipped with four cameras intended for monitoring troop movements and detecting potential threats, and that the attack rendered all cameras "completely inoperable".
The militant groups have pledged to persist with their assaults against Pakistani forces until what they refer to as the "liberation of Balochistan" is achieved.
The recent incidents follow the initiation of the second phase of armed resistance, dubbed 'Operation Herof', by the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) on January 31, marking a significant escalation of attacks against Pakistani forces in this conflict-stricken province.
