Balod (Chhattisgarh), March 20 (NationPress) With the surge in electricity prices and increasing environmental concerns, the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is proving to be a significant source of relief and cost savings for residents of Balod district in Chhattisgarh. By implementing rooftop solar systems through this initiative, users are not only slashing their power bills to nearly zero but are also producing excess energy.

Beneficiaries who have adopted solar technology under the program shared their positive experiences, highlighting both economic and ecological benefits.

Ishwar Sahu, a participant in the scheme, revealed that prior to installing the solar panels, his monthly electricity expenses ranged from Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,200.

"Upon learning about the PM Surya Ghar Bijli Yojana, I opted to install a solar system at my residence. Now, my electricity bill has virtually vanished," he explained to IANS.

He noted that the installation required no upfront costs, as it was entirely funded through a bank loan, which he is now repaying through installments. Sahu also mentioned receiving a subsidy of Rs 1.08 lakh within a month as part of the scheme.

Another individual, Manish Kothari, stated that since installing the solar setup, his electricity bill has completely disappeared, and nearly 1,000 units of electricity remain credited to his account.

"I registered online and chose a vendor through the portal. The vendor handled the entire installation process," he added, noting that the initiative has simplified and made electricity generation more affordable for households.

Meanwhile, Dr. Pradeep Jain emphasized that utilizing solar energy is a vital step toward environmental sustainability. He installed a 12-kilowatt solar plant at his hospital, significantly lowering the facility's electricity costs.

He asserted that transitioning to solar energy would also decrease reliance on natural resources like coal and hydropower while providing financial benefits.

Dr. Jain mentioned that the solar system has required minimal upkeep over the past two years, apart from weekly dust cleaning.

"Households with higher electricity needs should undoubtedly take advantage of this program," he advised.

The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is a government initiative designed to provide free electricity to households in India. This program was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 15, 2024.
