Dhaka, Feb 16 (NationPress) In a troubling escalation of post-election unrest, at least nine individuals were reported injured, and a residence was set ablaze across five districts in Bangladesh, according to local media.

As tensions rose, a violent clash took place in Lalpur upazila of the Natore district on Saturday night, resulting in six injuries among members of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

Md Mojibar Rahman, the officer-in-charge of Lalpur Police Station, confirmed the injuries and noted that two suspects were apprehended along with the recovery of a firearm from the location. A case has been initiated regarding this incident.

In a separate confrontation, a BNP affiliate was injured in a purported attack by Jamaat-e-Islami members in the Sadar upazila of Sherpur district. The victim, Giasuddin Rasel, aged 35, was serving as an election agent for the BNP's candidate, Sansila Jebrin Priyanka, who lost the election.

Moreover, a Jamaat worker faced violence from BNP supporters in Dakkhin Bhabanipur village, located in Daganbhuyan upazila of Feni district. Nurul Absar Belal, the victim, was attacked at home and subsequently transferred to Feni General Hospital after initial treatment at a local health complex.

In Jamalpur district, a journalist named Shamsul Huda Ratan was injured during an attack by a leader of the BNP's youth branch, Jubo Dal, while he was reporting on post-poll violence in Dewanganj upazila.

According to Ratan, he visited Mondol Bazar to gather information about the violence when he was assaulted by Faruk Ahmed, the senior joint convener of the local Jubo Dal unit.

In another violent act, a gang set fire to the home of Shokor Akunji, a supporter of Jamaat, in Mashiali village under Phultala upazila in Khulna district. Shokor's son, Abdur Razzak, stated that the attackers remain unidentified.

On Sunday, the Human Rights Support Society (HRSS) released a report indicating that at least 10 people have died and 2,503 have suffered injuries due to election-related violence from October 2025 to February 14, during the 13th national parliamentary election.

According to HRSS, over 700 incidents of violence were documented nationwide, resulting in 10 fatalities and more than 2,500 injuries. The report also mentioned that 34 individuals received bullet wounds, while more than 500 residences, vehicles, businesses, election offices, and polling centers have been vandalized, looted, or set ablaze.

With Tarique Rahman poised to lead Bangladesh following the BNP's significant win in the 13th Parliamentary election, experts caution that the country is confronted with severe challenges in addressing the unrest and the rise of Islamist extremism that characterized the 18-month tenure of the interim government under Mohammad Yunus.
