Kolkata, April 18 (NationPress) After securing victory in the Sagardighi by-election in Murshidabad, West Bengal, as a Congress candidate three years ago, Bayron Biswas made the decision to join the Trinamool Congress.

Ahead of the forthcoming state Assembly elections, the outgoing MLA and Trinamool Congress candidate from Sagardighi, Biswas stated on Saturday that he feels he has betrayed the Congress party and his political mentor, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.

Bayron Biswas, a leader of the Trinamool Congress, expressed, "I am selfish. I acknowledge my betrayal. I won't deny it. I received my ticket from the Congress party. I entered politics with the guidance of Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury. He will remain in my memory forever. He is my Guru. Adhir Chowdhury holds a revered position, akin to that of God in my eyes. I regard him as an elder brother. As an elder brother, he is entitled to offer me advice. Nevertheless, I harbor no regrets."

Despite his confidence in winning the Sagardighi seat during the upcoming Assembly polls, Biswas remarked, "Everyone aspires to win. Everyone holds hope. However, social services must be prioritized. If someone can offer better services than I can, then let them win."

Following Biswas's admission of betraying his 'guru' Adhir Chowdhury, the latter responded with a jab, stating: "I have nothing further to add. He (Bayron Biswas) has acknowledged his betrayal. When he calls himself a traitor, the general public will determine how to respond to that traitor. All I can affirm is that there is no comparison to Manoj Chakraborty as a Congress candidate in Sagardighi. That's all I can say."

In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, Trinamool Congress leader Subrata Saha claimed victory in the Sagardighi constituency. Unfortunately, he passed away in December 2022.

This led to a by-election in this seat, in which Bayron Biswas contested as a Congress candidate with the support of the Left Front and emerged victorious.

The victory stirred significant discussions in state politics regarding the Left-Congress alliance's Sagardighi model, which had achieved success after both parties faced defeats in the 2021 Assembly elections.

However, just three months later, Bayron Biswas switched allegiance to the ruling party by receiving the Trinamool flag from General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee.

Bayron Biswas has openly admitted to betraying the Congress by leaving it. The outcome of the Sagardighi seat in the upcoming Assembly elections remains to be seen.

Point of View

Bayron Biswas's admission of betrayal raises critical questions about loyalty in politics. His recognition of his actions suggests a complicated relationship with his past affiliations, and the forthcoming elections will undoubtedly test the strength of his new party allegiance.
