Kolkata, Feb 14 (NationPress) The founder of the Janata Unnayan Party, Humayun Kabir, stated on Saturday that aligning himself with the Trinamool Congress' scheme to oust the former state Congress president of West Bengal, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, from the Baharampur Lok Sabha seat in 2024 was one of his greatest mistakes.

Kabir represents the Bharatpur Assembly constituency, which is part of the Baharampur Lok Sabha region. After securing victory for five consecutive terms until 2024, Chowdhury was defeated by Yusuf Pathan, a cricketer-turned-politician from the Trinamool Congress, with a significant margin of 85,022 votes.

During an interview with the media, Kabir expressed that choosing Pathan, a resident of Gujarat, was an unfortunate decision for the Baharampur constituents.

"Pathan seldom visits Baharampur since his election as MP in 2024 and has not acknowledged the voters for their support. The defeat of the former five-time Lok Sabha member was a blunder for the people of Baharampur. My critical error was participating in the effort to defeat him in 2024," Kabir remarked.

He further mentioned that he is now regretting his actions and will work towards ensuring a significant loss for Pathan in the upcoming 2029 Lok Sabha elections.

Kabir was expelled from the Trinamool Congress shortly before the laying of the foundation stone for the proposed Babri Mosque in Beldanga, Murshidabad, which he initiated.

In the meantime, Kabir has launched his political party, Janata Unnayan Party, and is calling for an alliance with all anti-BJP and anti-Trinamool Congress factions ahead of the state Assembly elections scheduled for later this year.

However, progress on his alliance discussions has been minimal, with only the AIMIM, founded by Asaduddin Owaisi, showing interest.

Point of View

I believe that Humayun Kabir's reflections on his political strategies provide a crucial insight into the evolving dynamics within West Bengal's political landscape. His admission of error highlights the complexities of political alliances and the impact they can have on local governance. It remains to be seen how these revelations will influence the electorate's decisions in future elections.
